There have been persistent rumours that Iran will be allowed to charge new "environmental fees" for access, "to protect the ecosystem of the Strait" or somesuch.
(Secretary of War and former Fox News weekend anchor Pete Hegseth was on the news just this evening saying that the USA has been in control of the Strait the whole time, so I think the USA is arguing against your (correct) characterisation of the situation.)

Essentially, the USA has indeed been the one keeping the straight closed. They wanted oil going to China stopped. That was the reason the Navy was there.
ive been getting claude to reverse engineer my raybans glasses case, so i can figure out a 3d printed insert to put in thats less likely to break.
in the process, figuring out some tricks for getting opus to work with 3d a bit better
two tricks ive found is to:
1. get claude to present all the orientations to you, then pick which one after
2. convert 3d problems to 2d ones - get it to draw streamlines describing the geometry, rather than trying to look at the whole thing in 3d
fable was a fair bit better at working in 3d than opus is. well, opus mostly isnt
i get the sense that its probably overblown, sicne we've only got a couple years worth of measured data on it.
we're jumping to a catastrophe when it might just ring, and whatever the environmentalists who prioritize it qant to do about it might change something that doesnt need changing, and result in actual catastrophe when the ringing stops
I mean the collapse of the AMOC has been a hypothesized consequence of climate change for at least many decades. I was taught about it as something scientists think could happen in primary school; it's not new (tho it was framed in terms of the gulf stream, since that's the part of it which would affect Europe). Those fears were also founded on data-based climate prediction models.
They're relatively big players in geodesy with fleets of ships, aircraft, land vehicles gathering all manner of multi channel and spectral data at, above, and below surface level (for all the surfaces, geodetic, gravitational, magnetic, Mean Sea, etc).
They tie in with the majors that build and deploy infrastructure for oil, gas, mineral exploration and exploitation.
israel also has a substantial population of russians in the form of russian jews, so if israel is following russian disinformation tactics, it probably wouldnt be hard to trace their roots
sure it was reprehensible, but is it on the same scale even? both before and after?
criticising hamas seems like premature optimization, and picking something basically irrelevant to the overall conflict
