Eh, lots of things can be done. They all involve development though, and SF is stubborn.

Build vertically. Look at Tokyo if you need ideas of super density.

Your post comes off very egoistical. Ghost has actually delivered. I would hold off on your self glorification until you do the same.

I agree, you guys are right. Was in a kind of shitty mood when I wrote that and now I'm kicking myself for coming off like the egotistical bitter dick that I know I am. :p. HN deserves less Reddit type smugness.

The whole Ghost thing I should have mentioned is IMO a pretty sweet concept and not at all a bad followthrough. Their marketplace, partnerships, capital etc. make them a much better contender than my team could be.

Joystiq has a habit of downloading YouTube videos and self-hosting them with their watermark. (How is that even legal?)

Then when people visit their blog articles, they see watermarked videos and think they're exclusives.

Looks like a great alternative to the Xbox PC controller, but like everyone has been thinking, this is in no way a serious replacement for a mouse. Especially if you're a competitive gamer.

Holy sensationalism batman! I know HN loves its sensationalism, but wow.

Name another time that Google spent years putting its entire weight behind something no one wanted.

Google Buzz?

Google Wave.

Entire weight behind Google Wave! I think you got that wrong, chief. Also, it was killed in 1 year: http://techcrunch.com/2010/08/04/wave-goodbye-to-google-wave...

After spending years developing it.

Android? Everybody loves it now, but I remember most people saying, "I just don't see why we need this"

You can tell this is a bullshit poll by how many people like C. Don't get me wrong, it's a great language, but there's no way there are that many people programming in C. It has as many likes as JavaScript. Rather, people just voted C because it's a favorite language and it usually has positive press around Hacker News. So people vote what's popular and hip, despite probably having never stepped out of their web development languages (PHP, Ruby, Python, JavaScript, etc.) bubble.

>>but there's no way there are that many people programming in C

Do you have any idea how many embedded systems and performance related software is written every year?

Yeah, I find the popularity of C on nerd forums in the past few years completely baffling. Writing all your data structures from scratch is a nice educational exercise and all, but it's incredibly tedious when you're doing actual work.

There isn't a single community on Reddit unlike here. Every subreddit is unique.

For example, people on /r/bicycling are often very elitist and critical. It reminds me of HN sometimes. People on /r/pics are more friendly.

> Every subreddit is unique.

Yes and No. As a helpful person, I try to always leave comments on Reddit that add to the discussion and I feel like I get upvoted more on HN than on Reddit. The downvotes on Reddit, across subreddits, for helpful comments never cease to surprise me. I should mention that I comment on Reddit way more than on HN.

My school offered a few tracks. The earliest track had you out of school earlier, but classes started at 7AM. Everyone took that track at my school because people could get out earlier and do things when it's still light outside. I regularly woke up at 5:30AM with no trouble. It's not really uncommon for teenagers to wake up at 6AM. For some weird reason that changes in college, and everyone gets lazy and sleeps in. (despite college usually offering superior choice of schedule)

> or am I missing something?

Yea. It's Amazon. They're kind of a big deal.

1. Yahoo doesn't change anything. Gets called unpopular and outdated. 2. Yahoo changes. Gets criticized as screwing their products.

I am on year 13 of their fantasy sports site. I'm going to know what works and what doesn't. From applets to flash to mobile....Not to be a jerk, but do you? Otherwise don't have this conversation with me.
