It was the cat, those little fluffy bastards walked into a human camp about 10,000 years ago and kicked everything off. That's why the Ancient Egyptians revered cats as Gods /s

Honestly not sure how necessary that /s is.

Like, without cats storing grain becomes so, so much harder; maybe basically impossible/unfeasible. Without storing grain you don't get cities as easily or as long.

Same with transporting food by boat; you gotta have a cat on your trireme or what are you even doing Andronikos.

Countless poets, writers, scientists and artists have been directly inspired by cats. I could easily believe yoga was inspired by them too.

It seems likely that models, royalty, and the concept of grace itself are all directly inspired by cats.

And then there's the profound cultural significance of Toxoplasmosis over the millenia; cats are (usually) calming; introverts can hang with cats all day...

> introverts can hang with cats all day

There are certain personalities that are often attributed to modern sources, but haven't we always had that weird eccentric dude(tte) living in a shack that has a predilection to collect herbs/mine rocks/watch the skies/you name it, that isn't thought much of or seems productive until someone gets sick/needs ore/wants to know the weather/etc?

All that said, what did crazy cat people do before cats???

> haven't we always had that weird eccentric dude(tte)

I would bet the first human to do lots of stuff was that weird eccentric dude(tte). Who else would come up with writing, or words, or carry fire, or wear clothes, domesticate a wolf, etc.

> what did crazy cat people do before cats???

I have no idea, but that's a great question.

There's some repos I'm unashamedly keeping alive with Claude alone and he gets co-authorship - basically stuff in "maintenance mode" that I still use that I've forked and had Claude drag it into 2026

A quick PR where I've found the bug myself in the code, and ask Claude to write the fix because it's faster, and verified it - I don't include Claude's co-authorship.

Very easily these days, even if minified is difficult for me to reverse engineer... Claude has a very easy time of finding exactly what to patch to fix something

Very strange, I put the title of the article but HN seems to not like the word "fully" and removes it after I click submit...

HN has a number of title changing rules it follows when you post, for example posts starting with How often get the How removed. If you absolutely think the title is better then you can edit after posting and set the title to be what you want.

Anthropic vs OpenAI will probably be The Machine vs Samaritan

(Person Of Interest for those who haven't seen it, watched it a decade ago and it's actually quite surprising how on point it ended up being)

I don't even think Anthropic balked at being used to assist, as long as a human has the final say.

I built my ideal laptop... 4TB storage, the 5070, all the mods I would need, and it comes to $4000+ :(

My ASUS ROG Strix cost me $1500 back when the 3080's were new and has a 3080. Have prices risen that much?

I built a ROG Zephyrus equivalent: The ROG is $2,100 and the Framework is $2700.

So its more expensive but not $1500 vs $4000 expensive.

This was comparing the lowest end model ROG because that's the only one with a 5070. It was also 100% like-for-like, such as paying for windows, something I personally wouldn't do with a framework.

Buy the core parts from Framework and then buy & install things like NVMe and memory yourself. Will save a considerable amount.

Aye that's not a bad plan, to be honest I think my Strix still has a few years left at least but we'll see.

Judging by my experience with the Framework 13, you gain basically nothing going pre-built. The DIY work required is laughable. It's so, so easy and simple. If you don't account for nervousness, you could do it in 5 min, no problem. Comes with a very nice little screw driver, which is all you need.

Storage is expensive at framework. I bought the storage for my 16 elsewhere and it was substantially cheaper.

I had Asus ROG zephyrus M16 2021 and it's a hot piece of shit considering €2500 sticker price.

I wouldn’t say sour grapes, just that people have a certain budget. Forgoing Business/First i used to be able to afford more days away, maybe an extra city, etc

As I get older I take business class more, because I prefer the comfort over having a few extra days. Ask younger me and he would have taken the extra holiday days
