No, because obviously it's not about numbers but about politics.

It's a tripwire force (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tripwire_force), and sickening that it is necessary

Is it just me, or can't you close the big pop-in welcome info box on firefox ?

I had the same reaction and I think you are not supposed to close it. Just go Menu -> Print (Ctrl+P) and you will see it without the box.

also you can use https://github.com/krtab/agnos if you don't have any api access

I hadn't heard of Agnos before, interesting alternative to ACME-DNS.

Looking at the README, is the idea that the certificates get generated on the DNS server itself? Not by the ACME client on each machine that needs a certificate? That seems like a confusing design choice to me. How do you get the certificate back to the web server that actually needs it? Or is the idea that you'd have a single server which acts as both the DNS server and the web server?

My experience with a mac mini in a small R&D team has been a nightmare : the OS sucks so much for anything that is not a single user (at a time) on the machine, coming from the Systemd/Linux world

What was your experience ?

Yes, the experience is pretty bad, we were doing baremetal, so I assume there were only a single user on it. The tooling and its documentation was really bad too, actually we based ourselves on the asahi project and its documentation and some open-source project that did a lot of work on reverse engineering all of the system we used.

From a user based perspective, using the remote desktop feature was a pain and I don't think any of our users were actually using it, the main use was : CI, AI training and bitcoin mining.

Yeah, that's a postal box to host compagnies.

>I'd like to also thank fediblock for never fact-checking anything ever, giving the false impression that things that FSE has never permitted were allowed.

Proceeds to link to a website whose source code is hosted by kiwifarms. If you are blocked, that's because most of us don't want to interact with the "free speech" crowd, that's pretty much it.

That sounds like a non sequitur to the statement you are replying to. What does blocking or disliking someone have to do with fact checking?

The non sequitur was implying that the list was related to why those instances blocked this one, as though everyone blindly followed the fediblock recommendation. I didn’t. I’ve never, not once, taken fediblock’s advice without following up personally to verify their claims.

I blocked this instance when their user called me the n-word and the instance moderators didn’t act on my report. I didn’t block them due to fediblock, but because of negative interactions that I was personally involved with. And yet my server shows up on that list, as though it were related to fediblock.

Actually, what does being blocked by half the fediverse has to do with fact checking ? Nothing, but that's the angle the author of this story chose.

No it is not.

François was born in Buenos Aires, how is that the first american pope ?

At least in (USA) American news sources, "American" means from the USA. Francis was the first pope from the Americas.

See Wikipedia for deeper discussion of the use of the term in English: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_(word)

« I haven't seen GitHub break a working URL that they have hosted in the 17+ years since they first launched »

laughs in tornado cash

And that's why we need to stop being dependent on the US: everything in there is described in terms of « market share », and not in terms of usefulness, ethics, or independence.

I've seen stock-outs on free freestyles, following “influencer” videos on tiktok. That's a problem.

It's a problem that solves itself:

- If more people buy something, in the short term, you have shortages.

- In the long term, you have better economies of scale and prices go down.

These things should be available for maybe $15 at most, generically, off-brand.

Personally, I think this is the kind of exercise most people should go through perhaps annually.

The freestyle shortages were due to issues with production of the libre 3 and a transition from libre 3 to libre 3+. Abbott really kind of screwed things up with the transition (coupled with a recall on some of the sensors)
