Might be worth noting that several devs have suggested users use IzzyOnDroid instead. Due to IzzyOnDroid distributing official upstream builds (after scanning), they're not dependent on any build server.
Although they do have build servers for the purpose of confirming upstream APKs match the source code using reproducible builds, but those are separate processes that don't block each other (unlike F-Droid's rather monolithic structure).
IzzyOnDroid has been faster with updates than F-Droid for years, releasing app updates within 24 hours for most cases.
Do note that the new APIs from Google require apps to take "ownership" of the update process of another app so if you update from another app then F-Droid Basic Alpha loses its ability to automatically update it until you manually update is from F-Droid Basic Alpha.
As you'd guess from the name, it's still an alpha, but from my experience it works pretty well. Bug reports are helpful, of course :)
For this to be consistent you have to define access to a Twitter account as more important to ones future freedom of speech than being able to put a roof over your head.
Can somebody explain me "free speech"? What does it even mean? Does it mean that you are "free" to speak out whatever you want, but after you have done that, we can decide to punish you? Or does it mean, you can speak out freely without the fear of punishment(consequences)? If I know I will be fired for speaking out, is it still free speech?
What are you talking about? It was never abandoned. That UI redesign took them multiple years and they released several betas over that time period. Just almost nobody bothered to chime in during any of the betas and then everyone started to complain when it got to stable.
I see SimpleLogin mentioned in the replies several times, but I haven't seen anyone mention that you can use your own domain name with them to prevent vendor lock-in.
You can also export your setup through their API so you can very easily migrate to a self-hosted instance if ever necessary:
And given the author talks about Have I Been Pwned, I feel I should mention that SimpleLogin has built-in HIBP integration (contributed by me in https://github.com/simple-login/app/pull/472)
I threw myself at it. I now have an always running background app with battery optimization turned off and with location privileges that will drain my battery but I guess that's just the price Android users have to pay in order for iPhone users to enjoy their AirTagging.
Okay, so the title is not 100% correct, but I had to make it fit.
It is specifically about unambiguous translations of the word Libre, like the Dutch "vrije". These are translations that cannot be mistaken for "free as in no cost".
