Been bouldering pretty heavily for the last three years but I have not found it to be a very good place for meeting people.

Interesting. Maybe each club is different. I’m pretty introverted but I’ve found that people frequently take breaks on the floor and chit chat with strangers in between climbs.

Completely agree with this. I used to skip most of my classes but would get As on all of my tests.

Now I struggle immensely on going through the every day grind of adult life.

Correlation or causation? Perhaps if you didn’t skip classes, you’d still struggle through adult life but also struggle through childhood.

Perhaps you’d just be more numb.

I would argue pretty much every mainstream sport that will allow you to live off of requires starting at that age.

I don't know as much about other sports but for professional climbing you need to have started before 11 to make a living in the comp circuit.

Similarly, elite racing drivers typically start karting around 6-8.

Not sure if I would call it "new". Swimbaits have been around for as long as I've been fishing (several decades).

However there is definitely way more advanced ones then when I first started fishing.

Everyone knows it's Tacos El Gordo obviously /s

Looking at the code examples they shared it seems like they are the lone-wolf sort of developer that wants to "solve problems" in code that no one else can read.

The inability to read code (literacy) is a training problem.

I think you may be surprised what the current rates are though.

Depends on which market you're talking about. Canada, EU, and Asia are generally unimpressive. West Coast US is through the roof, mostly due to FAANG+M types, or those orgs with a similar demand for skill bodies. The rest of the US is hit-or-miss.

Entirely possible the Parent comment was getting paid 6 figures years ago and is now up to 200-300k total comp... but that's still paltry compared to SV, NYC, or cleared Washington DC work.

What are the current rates? How much below the current rates am I being paid?

> the developer relations folks have more purple hair and technical skills.

I've never heard the term "purple hair" before. Is that literally meaning like... more alternative?

Not OP, but I think it’s a general observation that a lot of the high visibility devrel folks tend to have fairly colorful personalities. This often extends to hair color. Charity Majors would be a good example of this kind of person (though she’s not in devrel).

So yes, alternative. Colorful hair, lots of visible tattoos, etc. A contrast to the sales folks, who are typically the opposite.

she's not "in" devrel but certainly every time she speaks she is performing that function (very well i might add)

devrel isnt really limited to people who formally hold that title. anyone in the company speaking to customers and potential users is doing devrel.

That’s a good point. She doesn’t have that title but it’s definitely what she does.

Oh man and those are common cards!

There's the rare cards that can sell for more than 10K USD and have more of a 0.000001% chance.

So you missed the entire point of their reply.

> Because they're making the same mistakes.

I suspect their point was that quoted line. I didn’t miss it so much as I just didn’t comment on it when the rest of the comment is just such nonsense.
