Dune. A camp counselor gave it to me when I was 11, and it changed the course of my life. Opened my mind to thinking about fear, courage, family, sacrifice, Empire, and the scope of human affairs. I reread it every 2-3 years.

How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. It's about how to listen to people in the right way. You have to set up communication systems that allow you to dial in to what THEY think is important and get out of your own way

A book by Nassim Nicholas Taleb, a scholar, trader, and philosopher. He wrote a book called Antifragile, link is below. He coined the term 'Black Swan' as well. Antifragile things harness chaos and get stronger, the world is not getting less chaotic.

Worked on this for years, I'll be here to reply to comments today.

This is more a question, in terms of Sci-Fi are people familiar with China Miéville? Perdido Street Station, Embassytown, and The City and the City are classics, Perdido Street Station might be the best fiction I have ever read. Dark stuff

Perdido Street Station was one of the best sci-fi novels I've read. I haven't read much - if any - of Miéville's other material, but it's on my list.

FWIW, his work seems to be at least relatively well known in the US. As one example, I'm sitting at a random Barnes & Noble store in Durham NC as I write this, and they have several Miéville titles on the shelf.

I think he's decently well known. I've seen him mentioned a few times on HN at least, all favorably.

Agreed. Monday Begins on Saturday is amazing - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monday_Begins_on_Saturday

From Scott Adams blog, Post is titled 'The Day You Became a Better Writer': "Business writing is about clarity and persuasion. The main technique is keeping things simple. Simple writing is persuasive. A good argument in five sentences will sway more people than a brilliant argument in a hundred sentences. Don’t fight it." Great article, 2 minute read, master the basics first.

This approach would place a disproportionate tax burden on the poorest sectors of the population, at least in the US. It's mandatory to have a car in order to get to work in most parts of the country. The structure already exists, punishing the least fortunate because of existing systems and structures seems punitive.

The poorest Americans do not own cars.

Three quarters of poor people in America have cars [0]. While the poorest people do not have them, car ownership is very common among poor Americans.

More friction for everyone, benefiting the entrenched leaders in all online retail spaces, looks like another step towards Balajis Network State, his Startup Society speech is amazing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiLUPvUsdXg

I love Elon, and he has been seeming a little more random lately. Shortsellers lost over $1 billion dollars in one day earlier this month, I know Elon is paranoid, but is he paranoid enough? https://www.cnbc.com/2018/06/06/shorts-against-teslas-stock-...
