I’m in a company where English is not our native language, yet we write almost everything in it. Being a second language I sometimes need to phrase and rephrase my ideas while writing them. I found that it sharpens my thinking.

As a native English speaker, I also phrase and rephrase my ideas while writing things in English.

In my experience, the exercise of fine tuning what you are and aren’t saying is one of the main reasons to write it in the first place, because it’s actually helping you figure out what you are and aren’t thinking too.

As a native english speaker, oftentimes I find myself rearranging my own sentances and paragraphs and discovering the exact same thing. Reducing overly verbose text similarly generatesx the same focus to thoughts.

I'm also in the process of hiring a Senior Brand Designer. I use https://dribbble.com and recently launched Polywork.

That’s interesting. Do friends use it for themselves as well or update it to keep you in the loop?

I found the 9$ / month pricing to be a little steep.

You can self-host it. That’s what I do.

La Gomera, Romanian indepedent movie, is based on this. The director learned about the whistling lunguage and then, for almost a decade, looked fot ways to transform it into a movie.

The biggest value an aggregator can provide here is curation. The amount of free resources are so vast there's no way you would be able to find the perfect PNG or SVG — and sometimes it's badly traced from raster. I've been using https://thenounproject.com whenever I'm looking for symbols. They also have collections when you want to maintain consistency in a project.

Amen. There's much free stuff, but sifting though it is unfathomably tedious to me.

It's all the same if you search for royalty-free music. I know I shouldn't complain, but most artists sharing free stuff "do not get it" when it comes to music for video with only a handful of tracks that are suitable. (Searching for something that is neither distracting from the video nor too boring)

Can somebody recommend an aggregator of royalty-free music that is not:

- from Kevin McLeod (Incompetech)

- from Jason Shaw (Audionautix)

- from ccMixter?

I think it's possible to find singular stuff on SoundCloud, but discovery of royalty-free music is not great on that platform.

This is not the thing you've asked for and it requires a bit of work to extract usable data from it, but I scraped Bandcamp a while ago (2019), along with the licenses of the tracks, genres and fan count, and made it available on Archive.org [0].

In theory, you should be able to parse the files, filter out libre/free music (CC0, CC-BY, CC-BY-SA) and even order it by genre and fan count to get some options for music.

There's also the Free Music Archive (FMA) [1], StarFrosch [2] and ccTrax [3] (not to be confused with ccMixter).

I think the conditions for a "unsplash.com/deathtothestockphoto.com" will soon come for illustrations as well.

If you’re excited about something there’s a good chance other fellow HNers will find it interesting. Just pot it here for starters.

Yet, it does get to HN frontpage almost every quarter...

In my experience B2B services are more successful when they are more serious. While I find this website funny, it doesn't give me enough arsenal to sell it to my team/manager/company. The best SaaS products have clear value props and resonate with a problem you're currently having. Sure I'll share this with my teammates bc it's funny but we'll hardly take it seriously.

Nicky Case also does it in the most delightful way — https://ncase.me/remember/
