I'm developing the same thing but for myself exclusively. To me personally, the HMRC MTD is an abomination. Before MTD was introduced, I could do my own books and could submit the results directly to HMRC via their website. No third parties necessary. Now they are telling me that I have to pay up to some third party to achieve the same thing AND to send my data through them. So either pay up or agree to be spied on or both. Sorry, but that's unacceptable to me. Orvellian technocracy dictatorship right there. Hence, I'm building my own open-source desktop HMRC MTD app for self-employed. It's not production-ready yet but it is getting there. Everyone is welcome to join me in development here: https://github.com/AtmanActive/MyOpenUKTaxApp
I understand that HMRC needed to automate the process, nothing wrong there, but then it is their responsibility to supply the basic platform to match what was previously available. When catering to accountants, nothing has really changed, the accountants now must use the API. No big deal. But what about real self-employed? What about people that never needed accountants in the first place?
It's super hard for me to change my billing provider. I almost certainly wont, but this is a huge reliability red-flag so I am going to put together a backup system, and my current WIP will have at least 2 providers.
Well congrats, and thank you for sharing! Here's a make or break feature for me: automatic already-seen of posts by scrolling past or opening, showing later on as dimmed.
Hey thank you for the feedback. Currently when you read a post I only dim them in the list. I plan to add an option in the settings to completely hide the posts you have read. Also when you close the app the read posts are rest. Should I make the read posts permanent?
I think so, yes. The thing is that HN posts are not necessarily in chronological order, plus they are referenced in multiple sections (new, top, show...). So without it, it is very hard, if not impossible, to track what's new for the daily reader. Posts I do care about, I open, posts I don't care about, I scroll past. In both cases, I don't really want to see them again. So, a personal auto-mark-as-read is absolutely essential. Thanks.
Got it, I will add a setting to hide or just dim read posts and the read posts will be permanent (instead of erased on restart). Thanks again for the feedback
Looks great, thank you for sharing. Let me share my setup: I have Syncthing installed on all of my machines. All important files in Android (camera, downloads, KeePass DB...) are continuously synchronized to my desktop. All files are living in two (or more) places 24/7. When I move a photo on my desktop, it is deleted from Android. Syncthing allows for time based backups folder so nothing can really be lost even in the case of ransomware attack.
