Agreed, but luckily the bay area includes all kinds of architecture that isn't corporate offices.

And they are pulling them back or requesting a full move, using taxes as the reason.

Is there any substance to this other than the U.S. tax system being antiquated?

What’s antiquated about it? Political jurisdictions are lines on maps, and they set their own tax laws. It’s the same everywhere else in the world too, isn’t it?

Actually the rise of suburbs was subsidized by the federal government.

Separately a lot of state and local legislation that is contentious can be copy pasted and sent along by lobbying groups.

I agree with most of this

One thing I've learned in my 30s is its not a genetic lottery. There are definitely very irrevocable dynamics but many can be molded with a level of concern, effort and boundary setting that we usually associate with work added with a dash of true sincerity and deep care.

> There are definitely very irrevocable dynamics but many can be molded with a level of concern, effort and boundary setting that we usually associate with work added with a dash of true sincerity and deep care.

I think this largely depends on factors outside our individual control—specifically, the other person. Sometimes setting boundaries, doing the work, can help the other person see the way their behavior is impacting you. Other times, it won't, so if you want the relationship to continue you have to be willing to always and repeatedly do all the work to maintain the relationship. Without the other person being capable and willing to recognize their own issues (and maybe get some therapy), no amount of your own effort can effect a permanent change.

What I absolutely love about this comment is that I feel exactly the opposite. Love mugi tororo and cannot figure out how eel is popular at all.

And here we have why they have two options.

You mean the delicious barbequed fish with fatty meat that melts in your mouth doesnt seem like it should be popular? Its like fois gras of the sea.

Unagi should be the freshwater eel but yes tell me more about the fatty meat goodness that’s so delicious.

Eel is fish.

Did I say it wasn’t a fish?

Unagi is freshwater eel. Anago is saltwater eel. You said foie gras of the Sea, sea is not freshwater and unagi does not come from the sea.

Great points, I was just being koi.

To be fair, tororo is a bit of an acquired taste. Some people love it, some people hate it. It's similar to natto in that regard.

Nips. banned.

Militias. let's debate!!

One could, but studies have shown this partisan extremism was really rooted in the need for a subgroup to get as much representation as they could:

Basically turning the republican party into a pod party

You’ll have to provide more evidence to support the extreme statement that the “Republican party is a pod party” than a 2014 article in Politico.

Also, what is a pod party? I’d be delighted to meet a pod party member, bless their pea-picking hearts. I’m guessing we have differing definitions...

And ^^ the government was aware and enabling this increase in drugs/drug-related crime to disrupt political movements for, specifically equality:

Part of our political system's fiction and ability to make no progress is deeply ingrained in lobbying and expenses that is more PR than impact. I think this is the parent post's point.

We think its a "grand pie in the sky", meanwhile some other countries are making real moves. Corporations meanwhile get to "do something" while in reality doing very little.

I also worked at eBay and never heard that said.
