I'm surprised that mermaid is gaining so much traction in comparison to plantuml which is much more powerful. I guess it's the ease of integration - you don't need to setup java backend just to render diagrams.
I'm still choosing plantuml over mermaid whenever I can. Mermaid has too many quirks and limitations.
Yeah, that's exaggerated. What author probably meant, that proprietary drivers give some features, which won't work with open source drivers. For example, better results in 3D acceleration. In my case, I was unable to configure properly multi-display with 4 screens and HDMI audio without nvidia proprietary drivers.
Analogy: when people are deadly allergic to peanuts, they make very very sure the food they buy doesn't contain peanuts before buying it. If they can't get an answer, they go buy food from someone who can answer their question.

That's really, really bad. At this point Firefox was the only browser which was supporting Java on Linux. I am forced to stick to the 51 version (52 64bit ESR does not support Java also).
You may ask, why on earth do you need Java inside your browser in 2017? My company, which does not support Linux, uses Java applet to create system-wide VPN connections to the client's networks and Firefox was the only choice.
