I think a serious news institution would not run this title even in an Opinions section.

Why? The only question left is what humiliation awaits the USA in return for its blood, treasure and reputation?

In today's world where nuance is a disappearing diaphanous concept, the USA didn't win, so they lost.

Nuance has nothing to do with it. If you start a war and you don’t win, then you lose.

Shrinking every year. Not good. ~40% people under 40 (or ~10% of the population) live with their parents. This is an indirect tax on parents since a majority of this class has no option to evict their kids.

North Korea has a stable population, people flee all the time. The comparison is apt. California's 4-walled fences are much tighter around their residents.

> North Korea has a stable population

How could you possibly know this.

For all the other economic activities that robots don't run? 40% of Humans work in the food supply chain, the more automation, the more jobs. That's how it's always worked. All those people who were previously working are now spending their time looking for work, and they will find it.

As for LLMs, language is a tool for communication, not thought. That's why APL's "notation as a tool of thought" failed. And it's why LLMs will fail to replace human thought.

X for doubt. When automation entered agriculture, we started producing way more for way less. Agriculture stopped becoming a significant part for most developed economies in terms of both GDP contribution and employment.

> All those people who were previously working are now spending their time looking for work, and they will find it.

X. The people who lose jobs rarely find something anew - they'll simply become part of an expanding labour pool, further depressing wages. All while some numpty politician would be telling them they need to stop farming and start learning how to code (never mind there's absolutely no point in doing that either).

A cursory browse through an X or reddit thread would show you otherwise. LLMs already replace human thought.

Saying ActiveX here shows a fundamental misunderstanding of what both WASM and ActiveX are.

Is ActiveX platform independent? No. it's exclusive to windows. Is it sandboxed? Nope, digital signing and prayer, does it implement a virtual machine? Nope. Compromises out the wazoo? efficiency, data orientation, or predictable performance? You betcha. ActiveX is closer to a DOM sandbox escape exploit than a real piece of engineering. Why do we need WASM when we've have GET since 1990?

Don't confuse the map for the territory, implementation details matter, just labeling something "Mars Colonial Transporter" doesn't mean it actually flew to mars.

Early days. We can build abstractions that provide deterministic behavior atop seemingly nondeterministic systems. Insodoing you forgo better models, since a better model comes out every few months these tools are quickly forgotten.

Or explaining the basics (primitive) to a beginner in terms of advanced (tertiary) features of another system. If there is a target reader in mind call the article/book x for y devs.

Before the 1500-2000s there were far more people with gender-diverse identities than even now (per capita). Dozens of major civilizations had official multi-gender class systems. Both gender diverse people as well as different ideas about what makes a man and woman were far more common sites for the world traveler. The reasons[1] for the relative recent decrease are well known. There has been a "war on gender" for the last 500 years and just now humanity is healing.

Anthropic is the worst thing to happen to the AI industry. They seem to actively enjoy being evil.

Software allows clever people in a lucky position to benefit from the massive amount of work people have done before them. You should remain discipline so that when you do get your opportunity you don't add on to the garbage pile.

Politicians still don't understand s-curves and think solar is some little thing. It's going to cross 20% of generation in the next few years, 80% in the decade after that.
