We use WeWork On Demand for this. No recurring membership fees, just pay as you go. It's okay -- $30 to $50 / day to use the common rooms and amenities. Much better than ... a library / coffee shop / hotel room.

Their guest policy could be better though! You essentially cannot have guests with the On Demand membership -- just go to a coffee shop for that.

To write with.

I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner. Based on the first result [1] searching "percent of americans vaccinated for covid": it's 79%. So flipping perspective: The unvaccinated 21% made up 42% of deaths. It's disappointing that even a hint of this context is missing from the article.

[1] https://usafacts.org/visualizations/covid-vaccine-tracker-st...

It would have happened sooner if vaccine acceptance were higher among the older and/or lower among the younger. The same thing happens every flu season: Older people get vaccinated but some still die, while the 20-year-olds don't die from a flu no matter what.

I'm at one of these for the following reasons: 1) It's effectively free when you make sure to meet their conditions like minimum balance, have a direct deposit, enable overdraft protection 2) it's a short walk to the local branch, where I can talk to a human, 3) their web site and mobile app are both great.

American banking system never ceases to disappoint me. Overdraft fees! What kind of mustache twirling Disney villain came up with that?

And to have the gall of touting "overdraft protection" as though it were some sort of feature and not the solution to the problem they themselves invented

how much are you paying them in lost interest each year?

And yes, I have a checking account at one of the major banks, I also have a savings account that I keep zero money in because it was opened at the same time decades ago. Having a checking account doesn't seem to be a rip off, my money lands there and then transfers to better pastures. I just don't understand keeping any money in their savings account.

Like if I kept my emergency fund there rather than in a couple online banks, I'd basically be paying the retail bank $800+ a year. Sounds like a scam.

5⃣.5⃣

I got 5.5 seconds on my sixth try in 55thegame.com

Came here expecting to see more wins... I'm surprised! Oddly, I'm not seeing three digits of precision in my browser though, so maybe something isn't quite right over here.

Have never seen it anywhere else. I wish it worked in Firefox!

I would love to see what comes out with certain aspects of the prompts negated.

- "lemon gelato that’s been shaped to look like a heart, on a handmade waffle cone being held up to the camera in a cobblestone courtyard somewhere in italy" ... what about "somewhere not in italy"?

- "Diorama made of clay of a group of computer programmers looking disapprovingly at their CMO who has just given them diet pepsi instead of mountain dew" ... "looking approvingly"?

- "friends gathering around a tabletop “shichirin” grill where an assortment of meats and seafoods are being grilled over glowing binchotan charcoal; everyone is happy." ... "everyone is unhappy"?

Ok, here are some results:

1: "not in italy": https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmWPbZnZL7mHazzMmGxx6wQjcbC2DdKtgpiYYUY...

2: "looking approvingly": https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmNgD9niZy1n4KWSXS3HEFeZm2qxQ2SzESfA6z7...

3: "everyone is unhappy": https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmcTktpFQGeGDAp7e3MwEPwwFMVMbDaEgW6PuSA...

I think getting good Dall-E results wil end up being an "art" in its own. Dall-E is like a broad brush and honestly I've never been good at getting great results. I think figuring out how to push Dall-E in a way that aligns with what you want with the right descriptors really goes a long way.

I think to get there, we need a good dictionary or wall of examples that tell you what you can even do. I didn't even know you could have it create clay dioramas.

It's interesting that the gelato's colour seems to have become the wall colour as well. What happens if you ask for strawberry gelato, or lime?

Looks like a big weakness of DALL-E 2 is mixing up the properties of every object and of the background/setting.

What a well written, gripping analysis! One of the most interesting plots was the Ocean Booking Volume Index... booking volume vanishes right around the start of Feb each year. I think this is about when Chinese New Year is celebrated. That's crazy!! Every year, booking volume collapses for a few weeks for Chinese New Year, bottoming out at less than 1/2 the minimum during the most recent early 2022 Shanghai lockdown.

A friend of mine recently left a mainframe assembler programming job. They didn't want to get stuck as a mainframe assembler programmer. They were part the first batch of new hires the company had made in over 10 years for the role. The company didn't pay like they wanted to keep their talent though. And, to top it off, a high level execs criticized growth in that product: "it's in the wrong bucket!".

Speaking of gun deaths... someone linked to https://www.osha.gov/fatalities the other day and I was surprised to see how many fatalities involve workers getting shot, often by co-workers!

Specifically, in the first 100 deaths, two were shot by co-workers, and one by a shoplifter. For comparison, two were struck by lightning.
