Sounds like you guys were sent to a rather drastic test we're running right now. I prefer more content too, but the video is currently in the lead.

Fair enough - I'm not saying no video, but maybe have a "Read more" link underneath the "Learn More" or something? Just a thought for the next A/B test.

Agree completely. Now that we've tested the simplest page we could come up with, it's time to start adding other paths to the funnel.

another data point for disliked the video. In my mind, if the sales page is that unfriendly, how unusable is their software going to be?

The extra content doesn't even have to be on that page. I was very disappointed that clicking the items in the menu just took me down to the small blurbs of content I had already read instead of pages devoted to those topics.

It's not your last chance; it's your next chance. Good luck Stefan!!

I came here to say the same thing. Every day is a new chance to succeed, and no single day is your last chance. Happiness is a long game, and the process of getting older is a process of trading simple pleasures for complex ones. Success is a long game. Never give up!

I told myself this too often. I have to succeed this time. Thanks for your support!

The funny thing about success is that it's highly subjective and sometimes the perception of failure is just a issue of narrow perspective.

If during the course of working toward some arbitrary goal you enjoy yourself and learn something then you have accomplished something that is more important than most end results.

What you do for a living does not define you as a person. It's just the shortcut that others use to categorize other people into easy to quantify values for comparison. You can certainly through the course of your professional life enact change that touches the everyday lives of countless people. The majority of actions that change lives though are the plain, boring, and downright ordinary actions of the majority. The combined machinations of our every day lives and how we impact those directly connected to us are just as important as that next disruptive idea that shifts culture.

Live inspired and find joy in the things that really matter.

Hard to say much without seeing the keywords you're running this ad against. I'd say the biggest problem is that the searcher has no idea what you do from your ad. For all they know you could be selling wholesale shirts. So #1 get your main benefit/feature up front and center.

Obviously you have to play with it but that should send you in the right direction. It's all trial and error though. Good luck!

That's the mods. Pretty sure they're sensitive to anything with YC in the title.

Just looked at your portfolio. You should have no problem finding an internship.

Good designers are ridiculously hard to find now. Try scouring Dribbble to find someone:

http://dribbble.com/search?q=retro

It took me a while, but I was able to the perfect designer after a couple weeks.

I know about dribbble - it's actually why I asked the question here.

The people there are good, but also mainly very busy - probably because of the site's popularity.

Just thought I'd ask around here in case there were others who aren't on there (yet) and could be recommended.

You need two main books to get started:

- http://pragprog.com/book/ruby3/programming-ruby-1-9 - http://pragprog.com/book/rails4/agile-web-development-with-r...

Read them in that order so that you learn Ruby first. After that your'll want to polish your Ruby and Rails idioms with:

- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0672328844 - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0321601661

Enjoy!

That would be resounding yes. I have over ten years of experience in my market, but I still learn something every time I talk to a potential customer. Talking with customers will challenge most of your assumptions, and we can all use a little time outside our bubbles.

OK, I was doubtful of spending time learning things that competitors expose in their "features & benefits" page, but now I'm convinced I should spend some time out of the building :-)

It's near impossible to find anything with zero competition. If you think you can build and market it, do it. You never know what direction your competition is going to take.

I'm working on project that would have been in direct competition with a YC funded company. Then they were bought by Twitter and dissolved a month before my launch date.

Thank you for your response! I really do want to try to build this thing, and it helps to hear that just because I'm up against a huge obstacle, doesn't mean I can't do it.
