As many others have pointed out, PayPal goes out of their way to make sure they are not a bank.

It doesn’t matter. If they aren’t holding your deposits then the underlying bank would place the hold and they must follow the banking regulations.

If PayPal isn’t holding deposits and doesn’t forward the hold to the underlying bank, then go get your funds from the underlying bank or sue them.

FinTech is a stack of companies operating as veneers on the underlying, heavily regulated banks.

Good luck with that. Any links to stories of people who have successfully done that?

Look through the disclosures and agreements you signed on account opening and find out which banks PayPal is using for your account. The linked one above is for a deposit account at Synchrony Bank.

Never signed anything.

Do you have a PayPal account? If so, I assure you that you signed an agreement. The complaint in this class action lawsuit says that the agreement is a 65-page PDF. You would likely have signed it electronically by clicking an “I agree” checkbox.

The build quality is excellent. It isn't quite as good as a MacBook, but I'm willing to take the hit from A+ to A- for the repairablity.

It's much better than any other laptop I've used aside from a MacBook Pro. The screen does flex a bit but unless you're actively applying torque to it, you won't notice. It's totally fine when opening and closing it.

True, I love repairability, but then I also love A+ build quality and because I can't try it out, i'm not sure if i will regret it when I got mine later.

Looking at Dave's video, the only thing that's holding me back was when he try to flex the screen :(

Honestly the build quality of MBP is so good that it's holding me back from changing into something else. Hopefully V2 of framework will come with the sturdiness, no brainer for sure

I have a Framework laptop and it's sturdy as hell. At least as much as any MBP I've touched.

Opening it with one hand feels great. The thought of it "feeling like it's going to break" has never crossed my mind.

They recently updated it [1] so that it does tell you why.

I can set up and sign in to MacOS without using my Apple ID though.

Correct me if i'm wrong but I think you still need to go online to finish the setup process?

No, you don't need to.

There is zero-touch enterprise provisioning available, that requires you to be connected to a suitably configured local network (if learns about what it needs from dhcp tags), but this is not something that normal users need to be concerned about. For a non-MDM-managed mac, you can do everything offline just fine. Or you can be online, if you do not want to use iCloud account (I'm not using it either), you can finish the OOBE wizard and everything will be just like the user wants.

I'm pretty sure you don't need a network connection to set up a mac unless this has changed in recent releases.

This article title is grossly misleading. As far as I can tell from the article, no actual votes have happened.

The group behind this is just pushing for counties to support them.

These types of groups pop up all the time, make hay and then disappear.

Still misleading, they voted to look into it. It's a HUGE waste of money since it wont go anywhere in congress.

If they’re not creating a new State but joining an existing one, it just might. Depends on how this plays out in Oregon and Idaho too, but it won’t affect the Senate.

Yes they can vote to leave the state but they should also not get any of the tax dollars from the more densely populated counties that stay behind. Thank you , Sayonara!

It can do 120 FPS, which is considered “high frame rate” for televisions. 60 FPS is generally considered standard.

Can it? The HDMI 2.1 footnote says "Support for up to 4K 60-fps HDR video output", and 120 isn't mentioned anywhere on the spec page.

What content is available over 60fps? I don't think they ever released The Hobbit in 48fps, and that's the only movie I'm aware of that was filmed with higher fps.

Is this just for games?

All Formula 1 races are streamed at 60fps, and there's also iPhone-recorded videos

But yeah, not much over 60

Agreed. They are trying to conflate two issues that are separate.

If Apple was blocking all VPNs from the App Store, they would have a valid argument, but Apple is blocking it for promoting accessing geolocked content in the app description.

That has nothing to do with the events in Myanmar. It’s just happening at a time when VPNs are extremely important for residents there. And as the parent comment mentioned, there are tons of alternatives.

Another way to look at this is that Steve realized there was nothing this guy could do to help him at the moment, so he hung up on him.

I don’t buy that.

Steve: “We need to do [XYZ]”

Wayne: “OK, sure, but I’ll need to be rehired.”

Steve: “OK.”

So you disagree with it morally but watch it anyway? And then don't even pay the people who produced it? Isn't that even worse?

I think there's nothing wrong with porn in general and the people who create it - just like other artists, performers, actors, etc - should be paid for it.

Just because it's "morally disagreeable" doesn't make it okay to pirate it. Then you've committed two "sins" instead of one.

I said as much in the first 7 words of my comment.

Porn is wrong. Stealing content is wrong. My feelings about porn aside, what I am doing is stealing by the law of the land. Do I feel bad about watching porn? Yes. Do I feel bad about stealing it? No.

I don't know what you are talking about.

When you are consuming porn you are not stealing. At worst, you're watching content without a licensing agreement.

That's not stealing.

I'm pretty sure they're saying that Apple, etc. are trying not to offend China with their programming. It's unrelated to Gawker, but mentioned in the article.
