I hope one day we can all stop doing the 'Post title that's the opposite of the popular opinion, but the content actually supports the popular opinion, it just couches it in an unpopular way, so as to gain clicks with a headline that makes it seem like the article was ACTUALLY going to support the unpopular opinion'.

This is, in essence, just another form of slimy clickbait (albeit, one that flies on HN).

The quote in the title is entirely fabricated.

What was actually said was: 'That is evil!'

We changed the title (from 'Holy S#&# Mathworks Is Evil”: Can OSS License Nullification Happen?') to a sentence from the post.

Works for me.

Not entirely fabricated

(links the comment).

I took liberties with punctuation.

Ok, then maybe indicate as such? And not present it, as if it were a quote from the article you're linking to?

Don't forget: Uber and Uber's drivers have been responsible for children's deaths, interfering with the normal course of competitor's business, stuffing blind persons' service dogs in the trunk, price gouging during states of emergencies. All on top of a proprietary, unpublished 'surge pricing' algorithm.

I know you think taxis are the devil, but Uber's behavior as a parent company has been downright heinous.

Personally, I avoid supporting them, whenever possible, and go with better-acting players in the market like Lyft and Sidecar.

Not sure why you're being downvoted a bunch for this post (seems like you're just stating facts that have happened, as well as your opinions, albeit in a somewhat negatively biased tone, but nothing out of reason).

So here's an upvote. I'd forgotten and/or downplayed these issues and your post made me reconsider and start using Lyft for the first time (been lazy thus far), so thanks for your post. :)

Thank you! I've been watching the downvotes, too, and wondering the same thing! Cynical lolwutf wants to think it's tied to yet-another-overly-aggressive Uber suborg, but who knows.

Glad to provide the perspective! Thanks for the upvote.

Uber's recently disclosed behavior has been incredibly disappointing. I still have fond feelings about them for their original innovation (a taxi that came! How fucking remarkable exactly nowhere but in san francisco.) But the way they comport themselves to their competitors and drivers makes it tough to continue using them. I just installed lyft.

Aye, upvoted. Unsure why you're being downvoted so heavily.

I think we can all agree that cabs in the Bay Area are terrible. Uber and its kin have certainly changed the market.

Uber however, seem to be resorting to immoral and rather ruthless tactics to serve themselves.

More importantly... weev still uses LiveJournal?!

Have you read Gruber's tweets on the matter? He's handling this situation like a baby.

His powers of getting people to read his one-line blog and other worthless content continue to amaze me.

Every time someone dismisses Gruber's contributions and influence in the tech field, it makes our field look like it's populated by dickheads.

Gruber's consistently had some of the best analysis on Apple (and some other aspects of the tech industry). He's been writing for over 10 years, it has made him successful, and he's been able to cultivate direct access to Apple (http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2012-09-06/meet-apples-...) and the occasional response from Jobs himself (http://techcrunch.com/2010/04/10/steve-jobs-responds-to-ipho...).

I'm with Atwood on this one, but seeing the peanut gallery make stupid and snarky comments about Gruber himself is starting to piss me off.

Well, I agree with you that he has some of the best analysis on Apple.

But the takeaway is that his quality content represents only a drop in the ocean of his worthless one-line microthroughts and general blabbery and whining.

Don't speak for me, because you are wrong.

I don't want him to speak for me even if he is right!

(But he is wrong.)

Who is he

Whoever he is

This. I'm fleeing SF this year for LA. The socioeconomic struggle has finally become, to me, unbearable + the rents too damn high.

I recently migrated from the Bay Area to SoCal (Orange County) - I'm seeing this sentiment more and more in my peer group.

(BTW - I'm hiring engineers down here in SoCal if anyone is interested in the migration - contact in profile)

Businesses however are doing the exact opposite-- they are expanding and hiring within the Bay Area.

AMA Request: Potential hire recently spooked out of a job interview by HelloFax

Seriously, we have to get rid of this 'holier than thou' mob rule in tech.

The justice system takes care of unacceptable social behavior. Everything else is a difference of opinion.

The point is there shouldn't be such a thing as an 'aggressive' OR an 'assertive' cyclist.

All cyclists should follow the law and follow predictive traffic behavior! It's pretty simple.
