It seems like Anthropic is constantly changing the rules and pulling out rugs, and always entirely by surprise. I’m not sure if they’re incompetent or just careless, but I stopped paying them because of this a while ago, and my days are much more interesting and enjoyable using my own brain instead.

As long as they keep losing money and are reliant on investments to pay their operating expenses, they are going to be thrashing about in search of a sustainable business model and I don't blame them.

Oh they’re very competent. They’re running a scam.

Theyrr a business abd tgeyre burning cash. Their goal is to find profit and that typical grades towards whales.

We have decades that say this. Few businesses survive by low margins on wide audiences.

What a product name choice! I wasn’t expecting ARM to pivot to selling snake oil.

Enshittification strikes again. For a normal user, the software seems to be getting worse and more cumbersome, and the company seems to continue focusing solely on pushing business- and enterprise-centric features that I have no use for. They'd do well to offer a non-pro type subscription for users who don't want all of that. Instead, though, I and a lot of others will simply be canceling.

I've only been using it for a couple years, but I find it has gotten better not worse for me.

It used to be really, really good on Mac, simply phenomenal, even when it was "syncing" via a dropbox folder.

Now it's more clunky, gets in fights with Apple's (admittedly much better passwords/keychain) via overlapping dialogs, and generally feels much worse.

This is going to be the impetus to move me off.

I’ve been using it for 18 years. It’s significantly worse than it used to be in terms of basic reliability. I was already debating a move, but didn’t really want to. This price hike, in the context of all the investors they took on, just seals the deal.

people are going to complain it wasn't subscription and that it was native.

Honestly, it's a really nice app. Most people don't care about that. My family finds it easy to use and the features are good.

Could I selfhost? Yes.

Would my family find that annoying?, Yes.

Could I use bitwarden? Yes.

My family would be annoyed at me migrating to another alternative if my argument is that I don't want to pay $1/month/year ($12/year).

I wonder how long before this gets defunded too?

AirPods also drop audio quality severely when their mic is active, just as with Bluetooth. Apple hasn’t solved that in any way with some nefarious extension.

They still need to spend at least as much on fixing their continual quality and software problems.

Being able to communicate clearly with high signal-to-noise is essential. When hiring, I’ve learned it’s often better to take a great communicator with less experience over a poor communicator with great experience.

Cover letters can be a helpful filter for this. In my experience a pithy cover letter is better than no cover letter. But no cover letter is better than a bull shit one.

You can bet that if I smell diarrhea of the chatgpt in a cover letter, it’ll get a fast pass to the bottom of the heap if not a direct route to the reject pile.

Meanwhile Peter Thiel is off plotting his next gambit to fleece and destroy this country.

Don't forget his buddy David Sacks and to a lesser degree Elon Musk. The "PayPal mafia" turned out to be just as damaging to society as a real mafia.

Irrelevant, and fountain drinks are only $1 at McDonald’s anyway.

Hopefully it never comes back up!
