"There are more Trump voters in California than Texas, more Biden voters in Texas than New York, more Trump voters in New York than Ohio, more Biden voters in Ohio than Massachusetts, more Trump voters in Massachusetts than Mississippi, and more Biden voters in Mississippi than Vermont." Imagine the legislators didn't escape - that a majority of them were killed. Trump and his people use this as an excuse to illegally "send the vote back to the states." Kelli Ward suggested this while the mob was in the capitol. We were not far from that scenario.
> Imagine the legislators didn't escape - that a majority of them were killed.
Less bloodily, imagine the boxes of electoral vote certificates didn't escape in the hasty evacuation, and the certificates from th contested states were selectively destroyed, so that when the session was able to resume and the certificates were counted, they weren't present. (Remember that a recent public scheme to overturn the results was a campaign to simply have Pence not open the certificates from the states whose votes Trump disputes toe exclude them from the count.)
No, actually, "understanding" that Khameni is a "bad guy" requires accepting that received wisdom from nearly anyone in American politics or media. It is not a hard position to have; most Americans already have it without any examination.
The folks at thedonald.win - who openly planned this insurrection on that website - give the the lie to your implication that twitter, facebook, or reddit have the power to prevent protest.
I recommend you address the arguments and concerns without insulting the person making it and calling them delusional. That's not only against HN policies, it kinda emphases OPs point.
Ok - his 'argument' reflects, I believe, a delusion about the state of American politics. Specifically, he appears to believe that Joe Biden winning the previous election is a harbinger for a leftist totalitarian state in America. This is patently ridiculous - he doesn't deploy rhetoric of the radical left, his policies and record are far to the right of democratic leftist parties in Europe and elsewhere, etc. On its face it is a ridiculous thing to assert.
I don't believe, however, that I can convince the poster of their delusion. Therefore I wanted to present the best evidence for it: reality, as I expect it to be, in five years.
Taxes. We tax the wealth. Aggressively, by raising rates, closing loopholes, and pressuring tax havens.
> entitles the government to take over ownership
Yes, successful or not, yes. Companies and their services exist within society, benefiting from our collective infrastructure, and society has absolute and final power over them. They are not people, with rights. Our economic system gives them extraordinary freedom to pursue wealth. That freedom is not a right. Capitalism is not morally equivalent to inalienable human rights.
